BIMINI, Bahamas — A 37-year-old Austrian woman was seriously injured after reportedly being bitten by a shark while taking part in a dolphin excursion off North Bimini on Monday.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) said the incident occurred shortly after 5:30 pm, approximately three nautical miles off the coast of North Bimini.

The woman was initially taken to the Bimini Community Clinic for treatment after reportedly suffering serious injuries to her right ankle.

She was later airlifted to New Providence, where she is receiving further medical care.

Police in Bimini are investigating the incident.
