Trinidad and Tobago will not be represented at the 75th Miss Universe competition, scheduled to take place in Puerto Rico later this year.
The announcement was made on July 1 by Crowns and Sashes, the franchise holder for Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago, in a post on its Facebook page.
The organisation said the decision was made after careful consideration as it focuses on its long-term growth and development.
“While we recognize the significance of this event and the enthusiasm it inspires, we believe this period will allow us to strengthen our foundation and prepare for a stronger and more impactful return in 2027,” said Stephen Jones, president of Crowns and Sashes.
Jones thanked the organisation’s stakeholders, volunteers, titleholders and supporters for their continued confidence and support, adding that more details about its future plans will be shared in due course.
Crowns and Sashes also holds the local franchises for Miss Supranational Trinidad and Tobago, Mister Supranational Trinidad and Tobago and Top Model of the World Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago was last represented at Miss Universe in 2025 by Latifah Morris, who assumed the national title after Dr Sihlé Letren resigned.
Morris competed at the international pageant but did not advance into the semifinals.
The next Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago representative is now expected to be selected for the 2027 competition.
The twin-island nation was regarded as a powerhouse in the pageant, producing two Miss Universe winners—Janelle Commissiong, who made history by becoming the first Black woman to win the title in 1977, and Wendy Fitzwilliam, who captured the crown in 1998.
