A Trinidadian and a Grenadian are among seven crew members taken into custody in St Kitts after authorities discovered cannabis and cocaine aboard a vessel that arrived on the island.
The Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force said the captain and six crew members, who are nationals of Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago, were detained to assist with an ongoing investigation.
The arrests followed a joint search of the C-Elizabeth II after it docked in St Kitts at about 9 am on August 10.
The search was carried out by the St. Kitts-Nevis Coast Guard, Customs and Excise Department, including its K9 Unit, and the Police Force’s Anti-Narcotics Unit.
Authorities discovered vegetable material that was later confirmed to be 12.515 pounds of cannabis, along with a white powdered substance confirmed to be one kilogramme of cocaine.
The RSCNPF’s Crime Scene Unit processed the scene, while the drugs and other items were taken into custody.
The Police Force said the investigation remains ongoing.
