NEW YORK, USA — A Trinidadian man and lawful permanent resident of the United States has pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and admitted to kidnapping six additional women between 2022 and 2023, US authorities said.

Chad Barclay, 33, entered his guilty plea in federal court in New York on Thursday.

According to the US Department of Justice, Barclay admitted that on September 13, 2022, he lured a woman to his residence under the pretence of engaging in commercial sex before robbing and sexually assaulting her.

As part of his plea agreement, Barclay also admitted to kidnapping six other women between 2022 and 2023.

Barclay was initially charged in August 2023 in a 20-count superseding indictment involving five victims. The charges included interstate prostitution, Hobbs Act robbery, kidnapping, access device fraud, aggravated identity theft, witness tampering and obstruction of an official proceeding.

He was charged with sex trafficking involving one of those victims, along with interstate prostitution, Hobbs Act robbery, kidnapping and other related offences involving two additional victims, in a second superseding indictment filed in May 2026.

“Chad Barclay has now admitted that he kidnapped, violently raped, and robbed multiple female victims,” said Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

“This prosecution demonstrates that we will always seek justice for survivors of trafficking and abuse to prevent more of these heinous crimes.”

US Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. for the Eastern District of New York described Barclay as a “dangerous predator” who used force and intimidation to sexually assault a victim and admitted to kidnapping six other women.

Nocella said the guilty plea holds Barclay accountable for the harm inflicted on his victims and reaffirmed his office’s commitment to prosecuting those who use violence, enticement and coercion to facilitate sex trafficking.

The case was investigated by the FBI New York Field Office and the New York Police Department as part of the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.

FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Barnacle said the investigation exposed Barclay’s alleged conduct and brought him before the justice system.

Barclay faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine his sentence after considering the US Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Trial Attorney Olimpia E. Michel of the Justice Department’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section, along with Assistant US Attorneys Andy Palacio and Lorena Michelen of the Eastern District of New York, are prosecuting the case.
