Caribbean athletics will have a strong presence at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, with some of the region’s biggest names set to compete from September 11-13.

The final entry lists show 381 athletes from 65 federations competing across 28 disciplines, with a US$10 million prize purse up for grabs.

Jamaica has the largest Caribbean contingent, with athletes entered across the men’s and women’s events as well as the mixed 4x100m and 4x400m relays. 

Jamaica is the only Caribbean team entered in the mixed relay competition.

Among the Jamaican men are Oblique Seville, who is ranked first in the 100m entries, Ackeem Blake, Bryan Levell and Christopher Taylor in the sprints, Navasky Anderson in the 800m, Romaine Beckford in the high jump and Tajay Gayle in the long jump.

Orlando Bennett, Demario Prince and Tyler Mason will contest the 110m hurdles, while the women’s team includes Tina Clayton, Brianna Lyston, Jonielle Smith, Danielle Williams, Ackera Nugent, Nickisha Pryce, Rushell Clayton, Shiann Salmon, Megan Simmonds, Demisha Roswell, Sanique Walker, Lamara Distin, Ashanti Moore and Ackelia Smith.

Olympic champion Julien Alfred will headline Saint Lucia’s challenge in Budapest. 

Alfred is entered in the 100m and 200m.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will have Shafiqua Maloney and Handal Roban in the women’s 800m. Maloney is ranked 14th among the listed entries, with Roban 16th.

Trinidad and Tobago will be represented by Jereem Richards in the 400m and Keshorn Walcott in the javelin. Both athletes are ranked fifth in their events.
