Tropical wave damage St Vincent

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent and the Grenadines — Flash flooding and landslides have been reported across St Vincent and the Grenadines following the passage of a tropical wave on October 6, with some reports of property damage and widespread power outages.

Among the reported damage are damaged roofs and a home that was completely damaged in the Buccament Bay area.

All schools across the country have been closed due to the inclement weather.

The St Vincent Electricity Services (VINLEC) said outages are currently affecting several communities, including sections of Cane Hall, Belair, Fountain, Dauphine, Welcome, Carriere, Cane End, Mesopotamia, Yambou, Peruvian Vale and Argyle.

Communities stretching from South Rivers to Fancy are also affected.

VINLEC said its teams are assessing faults and working to restore electricity, but landslides, flooding and blocked roads are making it difficult to reach some affected areas.

“As a result, restoration may take longer than usual,” the utility said.

VINLEC said restoration efforts will continue as soon as affected areas can be safely accessed.

The company apologised for the disruption and thanked customers for their patience and understanding as crews work under challenging conditions.
