Stabbing

A 35-year-old man has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a man in Chaguanas, Trinidad yesterday.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the suspect, a labourer from Edinburgh 500, was detained after a chase following the incident, which occurred along Busy Corner, Southern Main Road around 7.30 am.

Police said officers on mobile patrol along Old Endeavour Road received a report from a pedestrian about a man lying motionless near Busy Corner Drugs.

On arrival, officers found the victim lying face down on the roadway with multiple stab wounds. The District Medical Officer later examined the body and pronounced him dead.

While at the scene, officers received information from pedestrians identifying a man who was reportedly seen running from the area.

Police pursued and arrested the suspect.

The suspect was found with injuries to his head, face and hands.

He was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility for medical attention before being transferred to another medical facility for further treatment, where he remains under police guard.

Crime Scene Investigators attached to the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region III, processed the scene and recovered a cleaver and a knife.

The deceased’s hands were also secured for forensic examination.

Police retrieved the suspect’s clothing as evidence and obtained CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the ongoing investigation.

The victim’s body was removed to a funeral home and is being kept pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.

Investigations are continuing.
