BEIJING, China — China has congratulated Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell on his re-election, saying it is ready to work with Grenada to deepen bilateral cooperation following the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) sweeping victory in the November 5 General Election.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun delivered the congratulations during a press briefing on Friday, describing Grenada as an important cooperation partner for China in the Caribbean.
“China congratulates Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell on his reelection. Grenada is China’s important cooperation partner in the Caribbean. We stand ready to work with Grenada to further deepen our mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation and deliver more benefits for both peoples,” Guo said.
Mitchell’s NDC won 14 of the 15 seats in the House of Representatives, up from the 10 it held before the election.

The result also marked a milestone for the party, which was founded in 1987. It was the first time the NDC had secured a second consecutive term in office.
Mitchell will be sworn in for another term on November 8.
In a message posted on Facebook, he thanked voters for their support.
“Thank you, Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique for giving our National Democratic Congress team the opportunity to keep serving you,” he wrote.
