SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Miss Dominican Republic Universe Melissa Núñez and national pageant director Magali Febles were injured in a vehicular accident in Santo Domingo on November 6.

Media reports said the vehicle carrying the pair struck a wall before overturning on Núñez de Cáceres Avenue in the El Millón sector of the National District.

Febles later addressed the incident during a livestream, saying she did not believe the vehicle had been travelling at high speed.

“The important thing about all this is that we are alive, that God protected us,” she said.

In a statement, the Miss Universe Dominican Republic organisation said the 28-year-old model suffered superficial lacerations to her right arm, while Febles sustained bruises and physical discomfort from the impact.

The other passengers were also reported to be out of danger.

Núñez was scheduled to travel to Puerto Rico on November 8 to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. However, the organisation said her arrival would depend on her recovery and health condition.
