A late-night altercation on December 29 turned deadly for a 39-year-old engineer in St Vincent and the Grenadines after he was stabbed in the chest.

The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said they were called to Brandon Child’s home in Villa/Fountain at around 9 pm following reports of an altercation. 

Preliminary investigations indicate that during the confrontation, Child sustained a single stab wound to his chest.

He was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death as investigations continue.

Police confirmed that a suspect is currently in custody and is assisting officers with their inquiries. 

No further details have been released about the circumstances surrounding the dispute.

Police extended condolences to Child’s family and friends.
