St Lucian Police have formally charged a 16-year-old in connection with the fatal stabbing of Omar Joseph.

Police said Joseph,16, of Marisule, Gros Islet, succumbed to his injuries at 12:28 am on January 3, 2026.

Joseph was the island’s first murder victim for 2026.

The teen suspect was arrested on January 3. 

On January 7, he was formally charged indictably with the offence of wounding. The following day, Thursday, January 8, 2026, the suspect was further charged indictably with murder.

On Friday, January 9, 2026, the juvenile appeared virtually before a magistrate at the First District Court. 

He was remanded in custody at the Border Lake Correctional Facility Juvenile Centre until January 15, 2026, pending a case review.
