A murder suspected was extradited from French Saint Martin to the Dutch side on January 20 following a major international operation to solve murder that occurred almost one year ago

The individual, identified by the initials J.J., is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that took place on Aron Jacobs Drive in Cay Bay on January 26, 2025.

On that morning, police discovered a young man who had been shot to death in the street.

Shortly after the shooting, detectives identified the suspect, but he fled to the French side of the island to evade capture. He was eventually apprehended by authorities on the French side.

The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) said the move to bring the suspect back to face trial on the Dutch side was a collaborative effort.

KPSM said it worked alongside the French judicial system, INTERPOL, and the Royal Saint Christopher and Nevis Police Force to facilitate the extradition.

Local authorities expressed their gratitude to the international partners who assisted in the case. Officials noted that the successful operation proves that suspects cannot avoid the law simply by crossing borders.
