A Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) police constable has been charged following an operation that led to the seizure of 85 rounds of ammunition in western Jamaica.
Charged is 31-year-old Tarnel Wright, who was assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division.
Detectives attached to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) laid charges against Wright after the operation on January 30.
Wright and a civilian man were arrested during a joint operation conducted by members of C-TOC and investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division in sections of Westmoreland and Hanover. During the exercise, officers also seized a motor vehicle, mobile phones and a quantity of cash.
Wright has been charged with possession of prohibited weapon, stockpiling, dealing in prohibited weapon and conspiracy to trafficking prohibited weapon.
Head of C-TOC, Senior Superintendent of Police Christopher Brown, reaffirmed the JCF’s commitment to accountability and professionalism within its ranks.
“The Jamaica Constabulary Force has made a promise to provide impartial and professional service to the people of Jamaica, and we intend to keep that promise,” Brown said.
The civilian man remains in police custody, but his identity has not been released as investigations continue.
