The US Embassy Bridgetown has issued a security alert advising U.S. government employees not to stay at Ladera Resort, citing concerns about potential safety risks.
In the February 4, 2026 advisory, the embassy said crime may pose a serious risk to guest safety and warned that the resort may not be able to adequately respond in certain situations.
The alert applies specifically to US government personnel but also outlined precautionary safety steps for travellers, including avoiding the resort, staying aware of surroundings, sharing travel itineraries with relatives or friends, not physically resisting robbery attempts, and carrying a copy of a passport while keeping the original secured in hotel safes.
The resort is located near Soufriere, a popular tourism area in Saint Lucia known for its luxury accommodations and scenic attractions.
In response to the advisory, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority sought to reassure visitors, stating the incidents referenced were linked to a limited series of robberies that occurred during the latter part of 2025 within a specific area of the island’s southwest.
Tourism officials said the situation has since been addressed, noting that stakeholder meetings involving tourism partners began in December 2025 and resulted in enhanced security measures across the affected region.
The authority also said the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force treated the incidents as a priority, carrying out investigations that led to arrests and charges. Officials added that no further disruptions to visitor experiences have been reported since those actions were implemented.
The tourism authority emphasised that the island remains a safe destination and said it continues to work with law enforcement and industry partners to maintain visitor safety and confidence.
Officials maintained that tourism operations across the island are continuing without interruption while security protocols remain under constant review.
