The body of a Dutch tourist who went missing on February 28 after reportedly swimming in a river in Suriname has been recovered.
The Suriname Police Force said the man, identified by local media as Gemin Perez, was found on March 1 by officers from the Atjoni division who had been searching for him along the Upper Suriname River.
According to reports, Perez had gone fishing with relatives and acquaintances on the day he disappeared.
While near the resort where he was staying, he entered the river for a swim.
He reportedly moved towards an area of rapids and was quickly pulled along by the current before submerging.
Those with him began searching immediately after he went under but were unable to locate him at the time.
