Missing fishermen Antigua

Search and rescue operations are underway for an overdue fishing vessel carrying three fishermen off Antiqua and Barbuda.

The Antiqua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard said it is working with local and regional partners to locate the fishing vessel Faith P which was expected to return to port on March 12.

Authorities said the vessel was reported overdue around 5:40 pm on yesterday after the three men on board failed to return from a fishing trip.

According to officials, the fishermen departed around 7:00 am on March 11 and were operating about 12.5 nautical miles south- southwest of Barbuda.

The men on board the vessel have been dentified as Devon Prince, also known as Grease Gun”, Adrian Pryce, also known as Ivan”, and Carlton Pitt, also known as Nagamootoo”.

The Coast Guard said sea conditions at the ime the vessel was reported missing were unfavourable, prompting authorities to escalate the search and rescue system to its distress phase.

Urgent Marine Information Broadcast continues to be aired on VHF Channel 16 alerting mariners operating within the searct area to remain vigilant and report any sightings.

Search and rescue operations involve the ABDF Air Wing, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Fort-de-France in Martinique Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue, Barbuda Fisheries and members of the Urlings fishing community.

Dfficials are appealing to anyone with nformation that could assist in locating the ressel to contact the Coast Guard hotline.

The Antiqua and Barbuda Defence Force said it remains committed to the search and assured families that every effort is being made to bring the fishermen home safely
