St Vincent and the Grenadines flag

Two Saint Lucian fishermen were rescued after their fishing vessel ran aground off the northern coast of St Vincent on Friday after experiencing engine trouble and deteriorating weather conditions.

The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) reported at approximately 6:21 pm, the Coast Guard Service received a distress call from the operator of the Time and Chance, a white pirogue registered in Saint Lucia.

The operator reported that the vessel had developed engine problems and provided its location.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the boat later ran aground amid adverse weather conditions.

Residents in the area responded after hearing cries for help and assisted in bringing both the vessel and its two occupants safely ashore.

Police said the two fishermen were not injured.
