Police have launched investigations into two fatal officer-involved shootings that occurred over the weekend and early Monday.

The first incident took place on March 21 at a business establishment along West Bay Street.

According to preliminary reports, shortly before 6 pm, an off-duty police officer was at the location when an altercation began inside and later continued outside.

During the confrontation, one of the individuals reportedly entered a vehicle and drove it in a threatening manner towards the officer.

Police said the officer, fearing for his life, drew his service weapon and fired a single shot at the driver, who sustained fatal injuries.

A second incident occurred in the early hours of March 23 along Village Road, resulting in the death of a 48-year-old man.

Police said that shortly after 1 am, an off-duty officer was walking south along the roadway with a group of individuals when he became involved in a verbal altercation with a motorist travelling in the opposite direction.

The motorist reportedly exited his vehicle armed with a cutlass and struck the officer on the back, causing injury.

Authorities said the officer, again fearing for his life, discharged his service weapon in the direction of the man, fatally wounding him.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene and confirmed that the man showed no signs of life.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment, but his condition was not immediately known.
