Police shootings in Jamaica continue to climb, with 11 people killed in separate incidents over a four-day period between April 3 and April 6.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) said it was notified of five separate police incidents during the period, including three triple fatal shootings and two single fatal shootings. 

All 11 victims were male, including a 17-year-old.

The latest cases bring the total number of people fatally shot by security forces in April to 13. 

So far this year, 89 people have been killed in police-related shootings, compared with 87 during the same period in 2025.

Among those identified are Devonie Chase, 27, and Reagan McIntosh, 28, who were both killed in Sheffield, Westmoreland on April 3. Others include 19-year-old Tywain Campbell, 22-year-old Shackille Bennett, and 52-year-old Geoffe Campbell, who were killed during a planned operation in Brown’s Hall, St Catherine on April 4.

Also among the dead are 21-year-old Romario Sibblies, and brothers Justin Somers, 19, and Cory Somers, 17, who were killed in March Pen, Spanish Town on April 5. 

Three other men remain unidentified.

Deputy Commissioner of INDECOM, Yanique Taylor-Wellington, described the incidents as a matter of “grave and escalating concern.”

“The fatal shooting of 11 persons by members of police teams over the Easter weekend, including three separate incidents involving triple fatalities, is a matter of grave and escalating concern,” she said. “These incidents continue to reflect an alarming trajectory in the use of lethal force and underscore the urgent need for transparency and accountability in policing operations.”

Taylor-Wellington also raised concerns about the absence of body-worn cameras during the incidents, noting that none of the officers involved were equipped with them. 

She stressed that such devices are critical for ensuring accountability and protecting both citizens and law enforcement officers.

INDECOM said eight firearms were reportedly recovered across the five scenes. 

Investigators processed the scenes, collected evidence and swabbed the hands of the deceased for gunshot residue.

The officers involved have been served notices requiring them to provide statements and attend interviews as investigations continue.

INDECOM is urging members of the public to share any information, including photos or videos, that could assist with its investigations.
