Antigua and Barbuda’s government has dismissed as false claims circulating publicly that Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s United States visa has been revoked.
In a statement on April 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the allegations were “entirely without foundation” and rejected suggestions that Browne had lost his US visa.
The ministry said the US Embassy in Barbados, which has responsibility for Antigua and Barbuda, confirmed claims were false.
The ministry described the reports as “political mischief” aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary concern during the country’s election season.
Antigua and Barbuda is currently in the midst of a General Election campaign.
The ministry also sought to reassure the public that relations between Antigua and Barbuda and the United States remain strong.
It said both governments continue to maintain a constructive working relationship, including on visa and consular matters, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
The ministry urged people to act responsibly in public discourse and avoid spreading false or misleading information.
