Police in are investigating a triple murder in Belmont, Port of Spain that left a two-year-old boy among the dead and his mother hospitalised.
The shooting occurred around 8:35 am on May 7 at St Francois Valley Road.
The two men were found dead beside a silver Toyota Aqua.
They have been identified as Akeil “Fats” Kafi and Antony “Monster” Wilson.
Kafi’s son Akini was taken to hospital after being shot but later died. His mother, Antonio, was also injured and remains in hospital.
Investigators have not confirmed a motive. It is also unclear whether the attack is linked to a recent mass shooting along Lady Young Road in Morvant last month, where four people, including a child, were killed.
The killings bring the murder toll in Trinidad and Tobago to at least 130 so far this year.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin, who visited the scene, said the incident has caused fear and concern and promised increased police operations and a “focused and relentless” response.
Opposition MP Stuart Young, MP for Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West, said he was “angry, disturbed and saddened” by the killings, especially the death of a child.
He criticised the government, saying it has no clear crime plan beyond calling states of emergency.
Meanwhile, Laventille West MP Kareem Marcelle said the country is facing a “troubling and terrifying trend” where violence against children and women is becoming normalised.
He said communities must do more to protect the vulnerable and called for an end to violence and the “normalisation of killing”.
Police say investigations are ongoing and have appealed for information from the public.
