A 22-year-old man has appeared before the High Court in Trinidad and Tobago charged with the murder of a teenager who was fatally stabbed during J’Ouvert celebrations earlier this year.

Malachi Fraser, of Bagatelle Road in Diego Martin, appeared before Master Valene Guerra-Abraham at the High Court in Port of Spain on June 29, where he was formally charged with the murder of 19-year-old Jayden Rouff.

The case was adjourned to July 16.

Rouff, of East Dry River in Port of Spain, was attending J’Ouvert celebrations on February 16 when he was reportedly confronted by a group of men and stabbed multiple times.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.

The charge against Fraser follows an investigation by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region One), who laid the charge after receiving legal advice from Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Anju Bhola-Mc Quan on June 17.

Police said Fraser is currently being held under a Preventive Detention Order.

He is the second person to be charged in connection with Rouff’s killing.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jalanie Roberts, also of Diego Martin, had previously been charged with the murder.

Investigations into the case remain ongoing.
