Bermuda’s road fatality count has risen to nine following a collision between a motorcycle and a rental micro-car in Smith’s Parish on June 1.
The victim, a 23-year-old motorcyclist, died after the crash, which occurred shortly before 6 pm near the junction of South Road and Knapton Hill.
Police said the rental vehicle was travelling east along South Road while the motorcycle was heading in the opposite direction.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the rider appears to have lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating a left-hand bend near the Knapton Hill junction. The motorcycle then crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with the oncoming rental car.
Emergency Medical Services, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and police officers responded to the scene, where the rider was found with life-threatening injuries.
Despite efforts by emergency personnel to save his life, the 23-year-old was later pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Police have launched an investigation into the fatal collision and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
