ITA Airways is set to strengthen its transatlantic network with the launch of a new seasonal direct service between Rome Fiumicino and Santo Domingo.
The new route to the Dominican Republic will begin on November 30, 2026, as part of the carrier’s 2026–2027 winter schedule and will operate through the end of March 2027.
It marks the airline’s first entry into Central America.
Initially, the service will run once weekly on Mondays, before increasing to twice weekly from December 14, with an additional Sunday flight added to meet seasonal demand.
Flights will be operated using the Airbus A330neo, featuring Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.
The Santo Domingo launch represents a strategic milestone for ITA Airways as it continues to deepen its presence across the Americas. The airline already operates long-haul services to the United States, Canada, Brazil and Argentina—key markets for both Italian outbound tourism and inbound travel linked to large diaspora communities.
“With Santo Domingo, we are strengthening our presence in the Americas and enhancing our offering to and from Rome Fiumicino with a highly attractive new destination,” said Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial, Network and Incentive Management Officer at ITA Airways.
She added that the route is designed to appeal to both leisure travellers and the wider tourism industry, offering direct winter access to the Caribbean destination with the airline’s long-haul product.
“This route is designed for our customers, who will be able to plan their winter holidays with the convenience of a direct flight and the comfort of our Airbus A330neo,” she said.
The expansion into the Dominican Republic comes as ITA Airways continues to scale up its intercontinental network, following recent increases in frequencies to India and Thailand. The airline said long-haul growth remains a central pillar of its commercial strategy, supported by ongoing fleet expansion.
Flights on the Rome–Santo Domingo route are now available for booking across all ITA Airways sales channels, including its website, mobile app, customer service centre, travel agencies and airport ticket offices.
