Pope Leo XIV has officially accepted the resignation of Bishop Clyde Martin Harvey as Bishop of St George’s in Grenada.

The Diocese of St George’s in Grenada said Bishop Harvey had submitted his resignation on November 9, 2023, in accordance with canon law. 

However, Pope Francis did not immediately accept the resignation at the time and asked him to remain in office until January 31, 2026.

Following the election of Pope Leo XIV in May 2025, the resignation was formally accepted on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

With the diocese now entering a transitional period, Archbishop Gabriel Malzaire of Castries, St Lucia, has been appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of St George’s until a new bishop is named.

Archbishop Malzaire is expected to attend the monthly devotion at the Marian Shrine, Battle Hill, on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 3pm.

Bishop Harvey, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, is expected to leave the diocese next week.
