A 64-year-old United States citizen has died following a suspected drowning incident in The Bahamas on June 22.
Police said the incident occurred in the Sandy Cay area of Abaco, where the man was reportedly snorkelling with his wife and another couple when he was caught in a strong current and swept away from the group.
According to preliminary reports, officers in Hope Town were alerted shortly after 12:30 pm by Hope Town Fire Rescue that an unresponsive male had been found in the water and was being transported to Marsh Harbour for medical assistance.
The man was later located aboard a white-and-blue 19-foot vessel at the Crossing Ferry Dock in Marsh Harbour.
He was taken to the Marsh Harbour Healthcare Centre, where he was examined by a physician and pronounced dead at 3:10pm.
Foul play is not suspected at this time, police said.
An autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is continuing.
