Police in the US Virgin Islands are investigating the death of a 69-year-old woman whose body was found at the Historical Danish Cemetery in St Thomas on June 22

The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said a concerned citizen contacted the 911 Emergency Call Center at about 9:25 am after seeing a woman lying in the cemetery with blood around her body.

Officers responded to the scene and found an unresponsive woman with injuries. 

Emergency Medical Technicians later confirmed that she had no vital signs.

The woman was identified by next of kin as Philomen Winston.

Police have not released further details surrounding the circumstances of her death as investigations continue.
