A 59-year-old man has become the latest road fatality in the US Virgin Islands after a crash on St Croix.

The Virgin Islands Police Department said preliminary investigations indicate that Kenneth Belony was driving south along Kingshill Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve.

Police said the vehicle crashed into a utility pole on the eastern shoulder of the southbound lane.

Belony sustained severe head injuries and was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
