The frontman of Antigua and Barbuda’s legendary soca band Burning Flames has cancelled all upcoming performances after suffering a medical emergency that required immediate hospitalisation.

In a statement, Sir Clarence “Oungku” Edwards said the decision was made following consultations with his medical team, who have advised him to avoid all performance-related activities for at least four to six weeks.

The veteran entertainer said stepping away from the stage was a difficult decision, particularly with the Carnival season approaching, but stressed that his recovery must take priority.

“I deeply value every opportunity to perform, especially during the carnival season that is fast approaching, and sincerely regret the disappointment this news may bring to fans, promoters and event partners,” he said.

Edwards thanked fans for the outpouring of support and well wishes he has received since the medical emergency.

“While taking time away from the stage is difficult, the focus must remain on recovery. I look forward to returning and sharing new memories with you as soon as it is medically possible,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude for the encouragement and patience shown by supporters, saying their messages have meant “more than words can express.”
