Antigua and Barbuda Police have described the 2026 Carnival celebrations as safe and largely incident-free, with no major acts of violence or serious injuries reported during the festival.

In a statement, the Police Administration said the successful staging of the country’s biggest cultural event reflected the cooperation of the public and the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies throughout the Carnival season.

Police noted that while a small number of revellers were arrested after being found with prohibited weapons, the vast majority complied with security measures and public safety advisories issued before and during the celebrations.

The force also commended its officers for their professionalism and dedication in maintaining public order and protecting residents, visitors, businesses and property during the festivities.

Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers thanked the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) for its support, singling out Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Telbert Benjamin and members of the military for their role in the operation.

“I am particularly pleased with the level of professionalism, discipline, and dedication demonstrated by the officers and soldiers of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force,” Jeffers said.

“Their seamless collaboration with our officers played a significant role in ensuring that Carnival 2026 was celebrated in a safe and secure environment for everyone.”

Jeffers also expressed appreciation to the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission for its partnership in helping ensure the smooth staging of the annual festival, as well as the media for assisting with the dissemination of public safety information.

The Police Administration said it intends to build on this year’s success by continuing to strengthen partnerships with the community and other stakeholders while maintaining a safe and secure environment across the country.
