The MV Barima.

The death toll from the MV Barima tragedy in Guyana has risen to 10 after search and rescue teams recovered eight more bodies on Monday.

The Guyana government said the bodies were found during search operations that resumed at first light.

Relatives will assist with the identification process, which will be carried out at Suddie Hospital.

At least 116 passengers and 17 crew were listed on the vessel’s official manifest for the voyage from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.

However, authorities now believe that figure is inaccurate after discovering that some of the 67 people rescued so far were not included on the passenger list.

Officials have urged anyone who believes a relative was on board the vessel but was not listed on the manifest to contact the authorities as efforts continue to account for everyone who was aboard.
