A 34-year-old Indian tourist has died after getting into difficulty while snorkelling at Sandy Island in Anguilla.

The man was visiting Anguilla as part of a corporate retreat with colleagues after arriving on the island on July 9, according to the Royal Anguilla Police Force.

Police said the group had completed an initial snorkelling session before the man entered the water a second time alone using an underwater scooter.

While approximately 30 to 40 feet offshore, he was seen floating motionless.
He was brought back to shore, where emergency responders began CPR before he was transported by boat to Sandy Ground and later taken by ambulance to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m.

The Royal Anguilla Police Force said there is currently no indication of foul play, and the incident is being treated as a suspected drowning.

A post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
