A 21-year-old man has been shot dead in the US Virgin Islands, becoming the Territory’s latest homicide victim.

Gerell L. Reed was killed at approximately 2:49 a.m. on Judy M. Gomez Highway, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting along the highway and found Reed unresponsive inside a vehicle that had crashed into a wall.

Police said he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical technicians assessed Reed and determined that he showed no signs of life.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

This shooting pushed the territory’s murder toll to 33.
