The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has appointed Jamaican financial services and government adviser Roy Reid as Chief Operating Officer of its Caribbean Office in Barbados, as the bank moves to strengthen its operations and engagement across the region.

Reid took up the position on July 15, 2026, after previously serving as a Senior Adviser in Jamaica’s Office of the Prime Minister.

He brings more than 20 years of experience in government advisory, financial services, investment management, fintech and business development.

Based in Bridgetown, Reid will support Afreximbank’s operations and regional coordination while helping to deepen its engagement with governments, businesses and other stakeholders across the Caribbean.

His appointment is part of a wider leadership reshuffle announced by Afreximbank, with the bank also making changes to its senior regional leadership across Africa.

Eric Intong Monchu has been appointed Group Managing Director, Client Relations and Regional Operations, based in Cairo, after serving in the role in an acting capacity.

Kudakwashe Matereke has been appointed Director, Regional Operations, Anglophone West Africa, and will be based in Abuja. He previously held the equivalent position for East Africa.

L-R: Mr. Eric Intong Monchu, Mr. Kudakwashe Matereke, Mr. Humphrey Nwugo, Mr. Peter Adeshola Olowononi, and Mr. Roy Reid.

Humphrey Nwugo has been appointed Director, Regional Operations, Eastern Africa, based in Kampala, following his previous role overseeing operations in Southern Africa.

Peter Adeshola Olowononi has been appointed Director, Regional Operations, Southern Africa, based in Harare. He previously served as Director, Client Relations for Anglophone West Africa.

Afreximbank said the appointments are intended to strengthen the links between its client relations, regional operations and transaction execution as it expands its reach.

The bank said the leadership changes will help improve market coverage, client engagement and the delivery of its mandate to promote trade and economic development across Africa and the Caribbean.

“These appointments highlight the depth of leadership and professional talent within Afreximbank,” President and Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr George Elombi said.

Elombi said the new leaders bring “valuable experience and deep knowledge of African and Caribbean markets” to their respective positions.

Afreximbank has been seeking to deepen economic and commercial links between Africa and the Caribbean, with its Caribbean operations providing a platform for greater engagement between businesses, governments and financial institutions in the two regions.
