New data has shown that the Dominican Republic remains a premier destination for travellers seeking a Caribbean vacation.
Data released by the Office of the President on December 31 showed that 11,268,973 visitors arrived between January and December 2025, surpassing the previous record set in 2024 when the Spanish-speaking island welcomed just over 10 million visitors.
Air arrivals increased by three per cent compared with 2019, reaching a record 7,884,421 passengers.
December proved to be a standout month, with more than 900,000 air passengers arriving on the island, according to figures released by Tourism Minister David Collado on December 30, 2025.
This exceeded the previous monthly record of 672,969 passengers, which occurred before the cornavirus pandemic.
“With this milestone, December becomes the best month in the history of Dominican tourism, marking the highest level of arrivals achieved,” Collado said.
He added that the figures translate into tangible economic benefits, including 73,608 jobs, RD$3.2 billion (US$50 million) in tax payments, US$705 million in foreign exchange earnings, and a US$393.7 million contribution to the country’s gross domestic product.
Cruise tourism also saw significant growth, with 2,399,830 cruise passengers visiting the island in 2025, representing a 153 per cent increase.
Hotel occupancy remained strong throughout the year, while tourism revenues exceeded those recorded in 2024.
The Dominican Republic is now looking to build on these gains. Dominican Today reported that the tourism minister and his team are planning several international roadshows to further promote the destination, with the first scheduled for January 13 in Mexico City, Mexico.
