An early morning accident on January 17 has claimed the lives of four people in Suriname.

The Suriname Police Force (KPS) reported that the accident, which involved an SUV and a bus, occurred at the intersection of Johannes Mungrastraat and Veldhuizenlaan in the Uitvlugt neighborhood of Paramaribo.

Local media reports said the bus was traveling on Johannes Mungrastraat when the SUV entered the intersection from Veldhuizenlaan. 

The car allegedly failed to yield, striking the bus and causing it to roll over several times.

Police and fire services responded to the scene to assist the injured.

In addition to the four fatalities, 18 others sustained injuries.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
