Prime Minister Mia Mottley is set to complete the formation of her cabinet as remaining ministers are scheduled to be sworn into office on February 16.

According to the Government Information Service, the ceremony will take place at CARIFESTA House from 10 am, where ministers will take their oaths before Jeffrey Bostic.

Mottley and Attorney General Wilfred Abrahams were sworn in on February 12, just hours after the Barbados Labour Party secured all 30 seats in the House of Representatives for a third consecutive term. 

The Mottley-led administration has governed the country since 2018.

Following her swearing-in ceremony, Mottley urged citizens to remain united as the country navigates evolving local and global challenges. 

She noted that the world has changed significantly since her party first took office in 2018, adding that the island now faces new realities requiring collective national effort.

“The world in which we live is a very, very different world from the one in which we were first elected in 2018. And that has become more and more apparent to me,” she said.

“I believe that equally, the challenges which we face domestically require of us in the 60th year of independence and fifth year of the republic for us as Barbadians to make the commitment to go beyond duty.”

The Prime Minister reflected on the sacrifices of earlier generations and encouraged citizens to follow their example to ensure the country remains stable and prosperous.

“If this generation of Barbadians is not prepared to make that additional effort, I fear that we will not be able to make the distance in the way that other made it for us. We have to do it simply because it is necessary but above all else I believe that we can do it,” she said.

Mottley also called on citizens to adopt innovative thinking and personal responsibility, stressing that Barbadians must remain proactive in addressing national issues.

Meanwhile, authorities have announced traffic changes to facilitate the ceremony.

The Barbados Police Service will impose traffic restrictions in the Waterford area between 6 am and 12 pm, and motorists are being encouraged to use alternative routes and anticipate possible delays.

Drivers travelling from Hothersal Turning, Lears and nearby districts towards Bridgetown are advised to utilise the ABC Highway via The Belle and exit at My Lord’s Hill instead of travelling through Waterford Bottom, unless business is required in that area.

Officials also confirmed that Combermere School will remain open, and parents and guardians will be allowed full access to drop off students.
