Mia Mottley has been sworn in for her third term as Prime Minister of Barbados.
The swearing-in ceremony was officiated by President Jeffrey Bostic at State House.
Also sworn in was Wilfred Abrahams as Attorney General.
He replaces Dale Marshall, who recently announced his retirement from elective politics. Barbadian constitutional protocols require both the Prime Minister and the Attorney General to take their oaths of office before a full government can be lawfully convened.
Mottley secured victory in the February 11 General Election with a clean sweep, winning all 30 seats in the House of Representatives.
It marks the third consecutive time she has achieved the feat since first taking office in 2018.
In a social media post after taking her oath, Mottley said she remains committed to serving the country.
“The people of Barbados have given me a mandate, and I am fully committed to honouring it through service and hard work. I thank God for His guidance. I thank the Barbados Labour Party, our candidates, my constituents, my family and my parents for their steadfast support throughout this journey,” she said.
“Most importantly, I thank the people of Barbados for placing your trust in me once again. I also wish to congratulate Wilfred Abrahams on being sworn in as Attorney General. Now is the time to come together.
The work continues, and we will move forward as one nation.”
The full Cabinet is expected to be sworn in on February 15, with convening of Parliament by the end of the week.
