The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) received an emergency injunction from the High Court on April 23 to clamp down on jet ski activity in the Buccoo Reef Marine Park and the Pigeon Point Heritage Park.

The court order prohibits the operation, launching, or retrieval of personal watercraft within the protected areas.

It also bans the offering or solicitation of jet ski services.

The restrictions apply to named individuals as well as “persons unknown,” and remain in effect until further order of the court.

The action comes amid ongoing safety concerns and following the jet ski accident that claimed the life of Angelica Jogie on April 8 while she was in a designated swimming area with family  at Pigeon Point with her family.

Her father and uncle were also injured.

A man was detained in connection with the incident but was later released pending further investigations.

The injunction also follows the passage of the Tobago Marine Parks Bill 2026 in the THA Legislature on April 23.

The legislation seeks to strengthen enforcement ans regulation within marine parks.

The THA said the injunction is aimed at protecting human life and preserving the reef ecosystem, while bringing order to activity within the marine parks.

The matter is scheduled to return to court on May 1.
