Plans to relocate domestic operations at the Piarco International Airport have been postponed until further notice, the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (AATT) announced.
The planned redirection of domestic passengers through international checkpoints, which was first announced on April 19, will no longer take effect as previously scheduled.
In its original advisory, the authority stated: “This approach streamlines passenger processing and supports a more seamless travel experience.”
It also outlined expected changes to the passenger experience, noting: “Domestic passengers can look forward to accessing a wider and more diverse range of retail and dining options. Travellers will enjoy convenience of exploring an expanded mix of stores, restaurants and duty-paid shopping, with full access to concessionary offerings across both the eastern and western wings Gates 1 throughout 14.”
The authority also confirmed the postponement in a brief update, saying: “The relocation of domestic operations has been postponed until further notice.”
It added: “The planned redirection of domestic passengers through international checkpoints will not take effect at this time.”
Passengers were reminded to follow the 3-1-1 rule when proceeding through security.
The rule allows liquids, gels and aerosols in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) or less, all placed in a single clear quart-sized plastic bag, with one bag permitted per passenger.
The AATT thanked stakeholders and the travelling public for their continued cooperation as preparations continue.
