Three Surinamese nationals have been charged with a series of drug-related offences after Barbados police allegedly seized more than 3 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of BDS$165,000 (US$82,500).

The charges stem from separate incidents on May 23 and were brought by the Narcotics Unit of the Barbados Police Service.

Twenty-one-year-old Kylie Bretni Banga has been charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cocaine. Police said approximately one kilogram of the suspected drug, valued at BDS$50,000, was recovered.

Banga is scheduled to appear before the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court on June 1.

Also charged is 33-year-old Farino Revelino Bergmans, who faces the same offences. Authorities said they seized 1.2 kilograms of suspected cocaine from him, with an estimated street value of BDS$60,000.

Bergmans appeared before Magistrate Alison Burke in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on May 30. He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to Dodds Prison. He is due to return to court on June 4.

Meanwhile, 41-year-old Celita Saskia Aloewanai has also been charged with possession, intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cocaine. Police said approximately 1.1 kilograms of suspected cocaine, valued at BDS$55,000, was recovered.

Aloewanai is expected to appear before the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court on June 1.

The three cases remain before the courts.
