An autopsy has confirmed that a cruise crew member, who went missing during a hike of Mount Liamuiga in St Kitts, died as a result of injuries sustained in a fall from a significant height.

The Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) confirmed the findings on June 10, stating that a post-mortem examination conducted on June 9 determined that Ziyuan Wang died from injuries consistent with a fall. 

The examination found no evidence of foul play.

Wang, who was reported missing on May 27 while hiking Mount Liamuiga, was found on June 1 in a ravine away from the established hiking trail following an extensive search and recovery operation.

The RSCNPF said the search involved multiple agencies and volunteers, including the St Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, St Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services, the RSCNPF Training School, the St Kitts Forestry Unit, the St Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society, the Ross University K9 Unit, experienced hikers and members of the public.

Authorities also expressed appreciation to Royal Caribbean Cruises and its local shipping agent, Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd., for their assistance and cooperation during the search effort.

The police force extended its condolences to Wang’s family, friends and colleagues as they mourn his loss.
