Trinidadian artiste Kashif Sankar is entering a new phase of his music career, announcing that he will no longer perform under the name KMAN 6IXX.
In a statement on Thursday, June 11, Sankar said he and his management team had decided to rebrand his image, and from now on he will be known simply as KMAN.
The announcement came a day after the entertainer appealed to Caribbean authorities to reconsider restrictions that prevented him from performing in several territories.
Sankar, who performs Trinibad music, also addressed the meaning behind the “6IXX” name, saying it was linked to a music movement and was never meant to promote gang activity.
“The term represented a music movement and was never intended to represent or promote gang activity,” he said.
Sankar said he has never been gang affiliated and believes he was labelled because of the community in Port of Spain that he came from.
“Unfortunately, this is something that has affected not only myself but many young people from communities that are often unfairly judged,” he said.
The artiste previously faced performance restrictions in St Kitts and Nevis, Grenada and Guyana in 2024, with authorities citing security concerns.
Sankar has maintained that he has moved forward and is focused on his music career. In his latest statement, he encouraged young people to avoid gang involvement and instead focus on their goals.
“There is so much more to life. Stay focused, chase your dreams, believe in yourself, and never allow your surroundings to determine your future,” he said.
