The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) is thanking members of the public who assisted officers after a fatal crash on Veterans Drive that claimed the life of 49-year-old Tanny Harman.
The accident, which occurred on June 17, also left a pedestrian injured.
Police said community members who were at the scene acted quickly, helping the injured person and assisting authorities as they responded to the incident.
Their actions also helped prevent the driver, who was allegedly intoxicated, from leaving before officers arrived.
The VIPD said the cooperation shown by residents played an important role in the suspect being taken into custody.
“Because of the immediate actions taken by those on the scene, the suspect was unable to flee and was successfully apprehended. This outcome shows the vital role that community members play in supporting public safety efforts and helping to ensure accountability,” the department said.
The investigation into the crash remains active.
