Authorities in Bermuda are investigating a reported rattlesnake sighting in the Gibbs Hill Road area of Southampton.

The Ministry of Public Works and Environment said it received a credible report of a possible sighting on June 26, 2026, prompting officers from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo to begin efforts to locate the animal.

No injuries have been reported, but officials are urging residents and visitors to remain cautious while the search continues.

Members of the public who spot the snake are being advised not to approach, capture or attempt to harm it. Anyone who sees the animal should call 911 and, if it can be done safely, keep visual contact with it until authorities arrive.

Residents in the Gibbs Hill Road area are also being asked to avoid areas where the snake could be hiding, including dense vegetation, spaces under boards, pipes or other enclosed areas with limited visibility.

Pet owners are encouraged to keep animals indoors or closely supervised until further notice, while nearby residents, emergency responders and healthcare services have been alerted as a precaution.

The ministry said it is working with relevant agencies to respond to the report and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
