ATB Chairman Sean Richard

The Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB) has announced changes to its leadership and board composition as the island moves to strengthen governance and strategic oversight of its tourism sector.

The changes, which take effect from June 1, include the appointment of hotel executive Sean Richard as the new chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board, replacing Cecile Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch, who will remain on the board as a director.

In a statement, Anguilla’s Minister of Health, Tourism and Sports, Cardigan Connor, said the transition forms part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure continued growth and long-term sustainability within the tourism industry.

The ATB also announced the appointment of hospitality executive Lockhart Hughes as a new director on the board.

Connor thanked Vanterpool-Kubisch for her leadership and contributions during her tenure as chairperson, describing her role as instrumental during an important period for Anguilla’s tourism sector.

“These appointments represent an important step in advancing the strategic leadership and governance framework of the Anguilla Tourist Board,” Connor said.

“As Anguilla continues to strengthen its position as one of the Caribbean’s premier luxury destinations, strong and effective board leadership remains essential to supporting the continued growth, sustainability, and competitiveness of our tourism industry.”

Richard brings more than 20 years of experience in tourism and luxury hospitality management to the position. He currently serves as general manager of Altamer Luxury Villas and previously held senior leadership positions at Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club and CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa.

He also previously served as chairman of the Anguilla Social Security Board between 2015 and 2020.

Richard said he looked forward to working with tourism stakeholders to strengthen Anguilla’s international brand and enhance visitor experiences.

“It is an honour to serve as chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board at such an exciting and progressive time for Anguilla’s tourism industry,” he said.

Joining the board, Hughes currently serves as general manager of Carimar Beach Club and previously held leadership roles at Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club and Belmond Cap Juluca.

He also served as a director of the Anguilla Tourist Board from 2017 to 2019, where he contributed to destination marketing initiatives and efforts to expand source markets for the island.

The Anguilla Tourist Board said the appointments are aimed at strengthening the board’s collective expertise as the island seeks to remain competitive within the regional and international tourism market.

Tourism remains the main pillar of Anguilla’s economy, with the British Overseas Territory continuing to market itself as one of the Caribbean’s leading luxury destinations.
