BermudAir has placed its first-ever order with Airbus, purchasing 10 A220-300 aircraft as the airline looks to expand its network across Bermuda, the Caribbean and North America.

The order, which was unveiled during the Farnborough International Airshow, had previously appeared in Airbus’ order book in March as an undisclosed customer.

According to a post on the Airbus website, the new aircraft will open up new opportunities for BermudAir to expand its route network and establish “a new region of operations” for the A220.

“The A220 is the ideal aircraft to support the next phase of BermudAir‘s growth,” Founder and Chief Executive Officer Adam Scott said.

“Its exceptional range, operating economics and performance at constrained airports will allow us to connect more communities across Bermuda, the Caribbean and North America with direct, reliable and convenient air service.”

Scott also said the aircraft aligns with the airline’s focus on passenger experience.

“Just as importantly, the A220 offers an outstanding passenger experience. BermudAir has quickly established itself as the premier airline serving Bermuda and the Caribbean, supported by a differentiated onboard product and a 70-plus Net Promoter Score. The A220’s spacious, quiet and comfortable cabin is perfectly aligned with the experience our guests have come to expect from us.”

Airbus Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry said the order demonstrates the aircraft’s growing role in regional aviation.

“BermudAir’s selection of the A220-300 validates the aircraft’s role as a tool for targeted regional development,” he said.

“This agreement introduces the A220 to a distinct operational environment in the Atlantic and Caribbean, demonstrating how its efficiency supports tailored business models. We thank BermudAir for their trust in Airbus and look forward to supporting their network expansion.”

According to Airbus, the aircraft will feature a 135-seat, three-class cabin configuration. 

The manufacturer said the A220 also delivers a 25 per cent reduction in fuel burn and carbon dioxide emissions per seat compared with previous-generation aircraft.

The A220 can carry between 100 and 160 passengers on flights of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 kilometres).
