A second police officer has been charged in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Jerbiah Paul in Dominica.
Joshua Hamlet appeared in court on August 17 and was formally charged with murder. He was not required to enter a plea as murder is an indictable offence.
Hamlet was remanded to the State Prison following the hearing and is due to return to court for a preliminary inquiry on October 2, 2026.
He joins 23-year-old former police constable Jean-Luc Langlais, who was arrested and charged with homicide last week in connection with Paul’s death.
Langlais was subsequently dismissed from the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force and remanded to the State Prison.
Paul was reported missing on July 24.
On August 12, severely decomposed remains believed to be those of the teenager were discovered in a precipice in Capuchin.
Authorities have ordered DNA testing to confirm the identity of the remains.
The charges against Hamlet and Langlais are allegations, and both are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
