A Canadian tourist has died after experiencing difficulties while swimming off a beach in the Cayman Islands.
Police said the 56-year-old man was swimming near Cemetery Beach around 3:40 pm on March 6 when he appeared to encounter difficulties in the water.
According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), the man’s companions swam out to assist him and helped bring him back to shore after noticing he was in distress. However, he became unresponsive once on land.
Officers from the Cayman Islands Fire Service arrived at the scene and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until emergency medical personnel arrived.
The man was later transported to the Anthony S. Eden Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
