Grenada is calling on its people at home and abroad to reconnect with the island through culture, community, investment and shared experiences as the country prepares for Grenada Diaspora Homecoming 2026.
Running from June 21 to July 5, the two-week celebration is designed to bring Grenadians from across the world back to their motherland.
The initiative follows an invitation from Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell during his 52nd Independence Anniversary address, where he encouraged members of the diaspora to return and strengthen their connection with Grenada.
The Homecoming programme blends cultural celebrations with national development discussions, highlighting Grenada’s food, heritage, businesses and investment opportunities.
Ambassador Terry Forrester said during a media conference on June 17 that the first week of activities will focus on celebration, with events showcasing Grenadian traditions, cuisine and culture while bringing locals and returning nationals together.
The second week will shift toward engagement and dialogue, focusing on how members of the diaspora can reconnect with the country in a more meaningful and seamless way.
A major highlight will be the Diaspora Forum, scheduled for June 30 to July 2 at the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort in St George’s.
The three-day event will bring together government officials, investors, professionals and members of the diaspora for discussions on investment, partnerships and Grenada’s long-term development goals.
The forum will feature conversations around Vision 75, Grenada’s national development blueprint aimed at transforming the country into a resilient, healthy and prosperous nation by its 75th anniversary of independence in 2049.
The discussions will include the Prime Minister, Minister of Finance Dennis Cornwall, Ambassador Andrea St Bernard and representatives involved in national initiatives including Project Polaris, Project500, the Hydrocarbon Technical Working Group and Project Skills.
Beyond the formal discussions, visitors will have the chance to experience Grenada’s culture through a packed calendar of activities.
One of the early highlights is We Pan Fest on June 28 at the Pedestrian Plaza at The Carenage in St. George’s. The event will celebrate Grenada’s steelpan culture with live performances, food, drinks and local craft vendors.
Homecoming visitors will also be able to take part in National Spice Replanting Day across mainland Grenada and Carriacou, where volunteers will plant more than 40,000 nutmeg trees. The initiative aims to help restore one of Grenada’s most important agricultural crops, which suffered major losses after hurricanes, particularly Hurricane Ivan.
Other cultural experiences include the Gouyave Fisherman Birthday Celebration, offering visitors a chance to experience the traditions and community spirit of one of Grenada’s iconic fishing villages.
The Diaspora Marketplace, running alongside the Diaspora Forum from June 30 to July 2, will showcase Grenadian entrepreneurs, farmers, artisans and creatives. The event will provide businesses with opportunities to connect with investors, buyers and visitors through exhibitions, networking and product showcases.
For those planning to return, several hotels and accommodation providers are offering special Homecoming packages, including discounted rates and extended-stay offers.
Participating properties include Calabash Grenada, Kalinago Beach Resort, Spice Island Beach Resort and other local accommodations offering special rates during the Homecoming period.
